Dulwich Picture Gallery

Sponsorship & Development Manager
8/1986 – 7/1988

I was employed to maximise revenue from sponsorship, corporate friendship and public attendance – sources until then largely neglected – and was also given responsibility (but no budget!) for marketing and public relations.

I increased the gallery’s total income by 25 per cent.
I ran its first two poster campaigns on the London Underground and produced its first full-colour leaflet, all paid for by sponsorship and government grant.

In 1987, to bring the quality of ‘London’s most perfect art gallery’ to the attention of businesspeople north of the river, I launched a four-page biannual newsletter (above), with contributions from Denis Healey and Sir Hugh Casson.

In 1988, to the same end, I conceived and presented a sold-out series of celebrity chamber concerts, featuring Mitsuko Uchida, the Academy of Ancient Music and the Gabrieli String Quartet among others.

The one that got away…
